Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created
by The Broke and the
Bookish. Each week they post a new Top Ten list that one of the
bloggers at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. All Bloogers are then
welcomed to join. This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is: Top Ten Book Turn-Offs you know
when..you are reading and then something happens to completely turn
you off -- cheating, absent parents, multiple POVS etc.
This is my Top Ten Book Turn-Offs that I have encountered of if I
do encounter while reading a book it turns me off from the book. Again like I
say every week, these are in no particular order.
1.Instant Love – Arggg I just get so angry and
frustrated when the main characters just met and they are saying ‘I love you’
this does not happen in real like you don’t just met someone and became in
love, it takes time, to form a relationship.
2.Love triangles – I dislike love triangles with a
passion, they get me so angry and aggravated, again it is very unrealistic yes
sometimes things like this happens but not in every damn YA novel. I just feel
that a romance can feel more real when it is between two people not when two
guys are fighting are fighting over the one girl and she has feelings for both.
Just gets me adfakjfskjhdsdh words that I cannot say. They don't put me off the
book fully but they do make me dislike it a little less.
3.When the main character is up themselves – I hate with a passion when out main characters
thinks so highly of themselves and they just think they are the best in the
world, the most gorgeous. It makes me angry reading it especially when it is in
their in perspective. I dislike people in real life whom are like this, and I just
cannot connect to them at all.
4.Excessive swearing – I can handle
swearing but when it is every second word, I just cannot read it. It makes me
cringe and flinch. You cannot have a normal conversation when all there is, is
swearing
5.Cheating – I cannot stand when someone in a relationship cheats on their partner;
it just angers me so much to the bone. I just want to scream and rip the
book apart, especially when they get back together as the one that cheat say ‘
it was an accident, I didn't mean it, you know I love you’ etc
6.Multiple Point of Views – I can handle up to 2 different POV but when there is more I just get
confused and the story just doesn't flow right, I end up reading the book multiple times each in a
different person’s perceptive, so I can actually understand what is going on.
7. Bitchy Best friend- Gosh when
the Best Friend just complains, bitches about everything. They think they are
the best in the world, they only think about themselves and when our main
characters has a problem they only think about themselves
8. Controlling Partner - When the other half of a relationship mainly the
male is controlling, tells the other what to do, what not to do. Even if it’s
not in a ‘controlling voice.’ It just wants me to scream at partner and tell
them to get out of that bloody relationship.
9. Females
that always rely on the knight in shining armor – I just
cannot stand when the female main character just stands back and wait for someone
to save her. It’s like no, stand up for your self.
10. Over
Explaining – I dislike and get turn-off when an authors takes pages to
explain what something looks like, who someone is. Yes you do need to explain
in detail but it does not take pages and pages of it. It becomes boring and I
forget what I am reading.
So these are my Top Ten, do you agree with any of these? What are some of your Turn-Off's?
I don't like a lot of swearing either. good list today. kelley—the road goes ever ever on
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot of similar things on our list this week. I also can't stand females so reliant on the strong male lead. It just irritates me. I'm not a huge fan of love triangles or Instalove either!
ReplyDeleteNumber 10 YES!!! That makes me feel like the author thinks the reader is stupid and everything needs to be dumb down for them.
ReplyDeleteMy TTT List
Wow, I totally agree with your list, particularly cheating. Ugh, I hate it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the cheating one thats my biggest book turn off
ReplyDeletehere is mine http://caitstruelife.wordpress.com/2013/09/30/top-ten-tuesday-top-ten-book-turn-offs/
#1 and #2 are the big ones for me. Especially when it seems like the characters only love each other because they're good looking. Another major turn off are male leads who are jerks to everyone but their love interest. Shouldn't that impact her impression of him? I know it would for me. I'd love to see more nice guys as love interests in books. The love interest in my story is definitely a nice guy. Nice guys don't always have to finish last!
